An Interview with Samuel Wilson, Jr. —
The DJ Who Has Shaped NYC’s Black Music Scene for Over 30 Years.
Miyuki Tani, CEO of ONTSUBU LLC and professional drummer with 17 years of experience, sits down with Samuel Wilson, Jr. — a veteran radio DJ who has been at the heart of Harlem and the Bronx’s Black music scene for over three decades.
Samuel Wilson, Jr. began his radio career in 1995 as an on-air DJ and Technical Director at WVOX / WRTN (now WVIP) in New Rochelle, NY. He went on to hold shifts at WFUV 90.7 FM and WHCR 90.3 FM / City College — building one of the most grounded careers in New York’s independent radio scene.
Today, he hosts The Black Soul Music Experience Podcast, bringing the history of Black music to a global audience — from Gospel, Jazz, and Blues to Hip-Hop, Afrobeat, Caribbean, Latin, and beyond.
In this episode, Samuel sits down with Miyuki Tani, a Blues, Rock, and Jazz drummer with 17 years of professional experience, to explore the deep connection between her journey and the world of Black Soul Music.
